The Advantages of using a Digital Programmable Thermostat

There are still many homes using old thermostats, some even using old mercury thermostats. These homes can be made much more energy efficient and thus environmentally friendly by switching over to a good digital programmable thermostat. This post will look at the advantages of programmable thermostats.

Energy Star is an organization set up by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy. Its approvals have become a benchmark in several countries for energy efficient products. Energy Star has shown that a good programmable thermostat can reduce home heating and cooling bills by as much as 30%. This means less electricity is used and therefore carbon emissions from fossil fuel burning power stations are reduced.

The key to the big savings is the fact that a 7 day programmable thermostat such as the popular Honeywell RTH8500D gives the user 4 periods to program per day. They are morning, afternoon, evening and night. By matching the schedule of the inhabitants of a home with the heating/cooling waste is avoided.

Many programmable thermostats have adaptive intelligent recovery or smart response. This is a function that brings the temperature of a room to the programmed set point by the start time. This function means people in a home always wake up and return home from work to a comfortable house.

The Honeywell RTH8500D Touchscreen Thermostat also has a temporary hold to allow the user to suspend the program if there is a change of schedule. Similarly there is a vacation mode on the Honeywell RTH8500D that allows the homeowner to set the thermostat on a timer so the home is comfortable when he or she returns from a holiday.

Moreover, the Honeywell RTH8500D has an auto change-over function that detects the changing of the seasons and automatically switches between heating and cooling to keep the home within 1 degree Fahrenheit of the desired temperature.

One of the first steps in green interior design is installing a good programmable thermostat. It makes a home more energy efficient and adds extra comfort to a home. They are easy to install and models like the Honeywell RTH8500D have intuitive touchscreen programming that allows even a first time user to quickly set up the daily times and temperatures. Once you have installed a programmable thermostat in your home and seen the savings it brings, you will wonder why these devices don’t come as standard in all homes and apartments.

Cat Training Is Easy With Cat Furniture

Training a kitten or cat is something that is very important to do, especially if you wish to maintain some order in your home. Cat training can mean training your cat how to use the litter box, not to scratch your leather furniture, where to go for food, to stay inside the home and not try to go out every time you do, how to play with a certain cat toy and how to use different cat furniture. To train your cat, consider some of the guidelines below.

1) Emulation. Just like children, cats can also learn by copying behavior. You may need to act like your cat’s “brother” so your cat ends up doing whatever it is that you are doing. You may need to do a certain process repeatedly, before you cat understands what you are trying to get him to do.

2) Start as soon as possible. It is good to begin training your cat when your cat is just a kitten. They say that you can’t teach old dogs new tricks, and this same rule applies to cats, too – in the literal sense. It is more difficult to teach cats that are years old new things, since these cats are set in their ways, so if possible, begin the training while your cat is very young.

3) Work with their nature. Cats are animals that are able to decide for themselves. They can also be very independent, and their level of independence grows as they grow older. Because of this, in training your cat, it will be important to get him to trust you. It will be important to be patient with your cat, and getting mad at your cat and screaming at him will not help in any way.

4) Catnip. They say catnip is irresistible to cats. Likewise, catnip spray should attract your cat to the new cat litter tray you’ve purchased for your cat, or any other cat furniture that you wish for your cat to learn how to use.

5) Show disapproval. If your cat has been spraying a specific area of your home, it is because he has been marking his territory. You can “tell” your cat that you disapprove of this behavior by laying some strips of aluminum foil on the area.

6) Reward. Conditioning is a process that involves giving rewards whenever something is done right. Even in psychology, those that are rewarded are more likely to do something or not do something – whatever it takes to get the reward. The reward could be catnip, a snack, or something that you happen to know your cat simply loves.

7) Association. Just as with teaching children, the process of teaching a cat can leave the person doing the disciplining or teaching looking like the “bad guy”, and so in teaching your cat, you may want to ensure that your own name is not associated with any ‘slaps on the wrist’, so to speak.

American Health Scene

The U.S. is a country of excess. We have the biggest, best, baddest and worst of everything. Take Jay Cutler for instance. He has won the Mr. Olympia title four times and he is huge!

Jay Cutler bodybuilder

There’s also another kind of huge America.

obese American belly

Of course, we could debate how healthy it is to be a bodybuilder. My point really was to demonstrate that there are some big guys, and girls, in the U.S. today. Obviously, it takes much more effort to to turn your body into a bodybuilding world champion than it does to become obese.

The problem facing Americans today is that there are so many bad food choices that are available for cheap. On top of this, we’re told that food that is bad for us, junk food, foods with high fat content and processed foods, are not all that bad and that we can eat them in moderation.

We would never suggest that an alcoholic should drink a little bit of beer. Nor would we suggest that a lung cancer patient would be okay smoking 5 cigarettes a day. So why do we insist on telling people who are obese that it is okay to eat a [McDonalds/candy bar/piece of cake/steak]? The thing is, the reason that there are so many fat Americans is because, in general, we are making poor dietary choices.

On the West coast, we have great weather and great beaches. So we have every opportunity to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and get active. This is important if we want to get into and stay in shape. The other factor that is vital for our success is thinking about what we are putting into our mouths each day.

Forget all about calorie restriction. If you want to lose weight, what you have to do is fuel your body with the right foods. What we’re talking about here are fruits and vegetables – LOTS of them. A piece of fruit between meals is a start. But really, this is just scratching the surface. What I am getting at, is eating so much fruit at meal times that it becomes our meal.

Have you ever tried eating 10 bananas? Do you think it’s healthy? Too right it is healthy. In fact, 10 medium sized bananas is about 1,000 calories. This might sound a lot, but it is 1,000 good calories. Compared to a Big Mac at 540 calories, the banana meal is going to fill you up for longer and energize you for much longer. Of course, there is way less fat in the bananas. And bananas taste great too!

There’s another great option for getting fruits and vegetables at meal times. Instead of eating them, you could drink them. There are two options, juicing and blending. Juicing is the process of separating the liquid in fruits and vegetables from the fiber (pulp). Blending on the other hand is simply the process of liquidising some fruits and vegetables in a blender. Learn about how to choose a juicer so that you pick the right sort of appliance for your needs. There are all kinds of different juicers and blenders on sale right now.

Southern California And Film Consultants

The weather down in San Diego has been great lately. In most of the country it is cooling off now, and in some places it’s becoming chilly. I can remember winters growing up in the Northeast, it was usually freezing temperatures by mid-October! On the one hand, you get the fall foliage turning all sorts of wonderful colors. On the other, you get the cold temps! I suppose it is a tradeoff.

In San Diego, of course, the year-round weather usually doesn’t vary too much. Most of the time you get a nice moderate seventy degrees or so. Sometimes it does get a bit chilly in the winter, and you have to wear a hoodie when you go out. On the plus side, you can use your pool for most of the year.

Visit Sea World In San Diego

The culture in San Diego is somewhat similar to that of Los Angeles, but they do differ a bit. For one thing, one of the big industries in LA is the film industry. Many people are aspiring actors, models, and directors. I have a friend who is a medical doctor that works as a film consultant for tv shows. You know which ones – shows like House or ER. The audiences demand a realistic script, so they have to have an expert on hand to make sure the dialogue is accurate.

The entertainment industry does not really exist in San Diego. People in general are less competitive and more laid back. There’s more of a surf culture. It’s interesting because San Diego has natural barriers on all four sides. On the west is the Pacific Ocean, on the north is Camp Pendleton, and the east is the desert, and to the south is Mexico! They say there’s over 4 million people in the San Diego greater metropolitan area.

Wild Animal Park San Diego

One of my favorite places to visit in San Diego is the Wild Animal Park. Sure, everyone knows the San Diego Zoo and its famous pandas. But did you know that not far away is an even larger animal sanctuary? That’s the Wild Animal Park. It’s located not far from Escondido, a short distance to the east along the 78 freeway.

One of the most interesting parts of the Park is the zipline, which travels over an area of the park that is not open to the public. You ride the zipline at 47 mph and a height of 900 feet! Down below you can see many rare animals. For instance, you can see Pere’ David’s deer and Przewalski’s wild horse. Who has even heard of these animals?

Taking this trip was one of the highlights of my summer in San Diego. Apart from my usual hobbies of surfing, eating fish tacos, and using my portable propane grill, I’ve been trying to see more of the area’s cultural attractions. I don’t just mean Sea World. I am also talking about places like Balboa Park and Coronado Island. Those are really cool places to spend an afternoon.

If it’s nightlife you are looking for, there’s plenty of different spots to hang out. Downtown has tons of good restaurants, bars, and clubs. One of my favorite spots was J-Bar. There’s other areas of town to hang out in as well. I really like Ocean Beach – if you’re more of a relaxed hippie type then you might like it as well.

Another option is taking a day trip to Mexico. You can drive right down to the border in less than an hour. There’s really no security going south and crossing from the US to Mexico. However, on the way back, be prepared for a very long wait of at least two hours. If you want to save time, try parking and walking across the bridge.
